Early 2008, Goodwill teamed up with Your Address Magazine to change one lucky Goodwill shopper’s life by transforming their family room into a livable, stylish space with furniture and accessories found at Goodwill. With the help of Interior Designer Rubi Kaur, our Brand U campaign (which encourages shoppers to be unique, be creative, brand u) created a unique space at a nominal cost, but most importantly, helped to instill confidence and pride in one young family. More than 800 Central Texans visited the Goodwill Community Center on Thursday, June 12, 2008 to participate in Goodwill’s 50th year celebration! Everyone that attended enjoyed live music, fun family activities, and a lot of food. It is the community’s support that helps Goodwill Industries serve thousands of individuals with barriers to employment find, obtain and retain competitive employment. Shoppers stopped by our retail stores during the month of August to register to win a hair and makeup makeover, shopping spree, and a before and after photo shoot with a chance to be a model in our Brand U shopping ads.
Last year’s makeover winners included a karate teacher that just moved to Austin from Missouri, and a biology major at Texas State University—San Marcos. These two young women enjoyed a full day of shopping, pampering and fun on Sunday, September 7 at Salon Keriz’ma in Cedar Park, TX.

Goodwill Industries Of Central Texas held a Community Advisory Council Luncheon Meeting on Thursday, October 2 to address the challenges that youth face as they enter the workforce, and to discuss ways Goodwill, businesses, and the community can overcome these challenges.
